thinking about the Good Place, specifically season 1 and the start of season 2. And like how they serves as a meta commentary on what sit coms and tv is in general these days. You come up with an initial premise and the premise is GOOD. But inevitably that premise cannot keep forever. the characters need to grow and change. But that premise is the show's identity. So the writers fight to keep the status quo! or maybe not the writers, but the producers. And you can feel the story and characters themselves bucking the restraints, trying to change, as any single change-- a dramatic reveal, a pair of characters hooking up, a new life choice-- threatens to ruin that status quo forever.

So what do you do? You make the characters forget. Forget the lessons, forget their character growth, break-up with their partner, return to the will-they-won't-they, forget, forget, forget. Reset; start again. Do it again, a little bit differently. Now they're neighbors. Now they're cowboys. Now there's a dog.

Or zoom out beyond individual series; look at the endless re-releases and reboots and adaptations. Do it again, but this time...

How long does it go on before the characters themselves rebel?

this is a fairly obvious parallel so im not going to waste time talking about that, this is more so about the second panel.

why are two CLUB teams playing at a world stage? by digging a little, here's what i found-

The FIVB Men's World Club Championship is a tournament held at the club level. To qualify you'd either need to be a wild card invite - which shows the calibre of your club to be recognised at world level, or traditionally by winning the continental cup - CEV for Europe & CSV for South America.

what im getting at is the sheer level of dedication it requires to qualify and participate in the club championship tournament. quite frankly, it isn't as prestigious as other cups as well and YET kagehina are there, facing each other. they qualified (which is a whole cup in and of itself) AND got past every other opponent in the club championship to meet each other at the highest stage !!!

that's exactly what they did. that's why the fact that furudate drew club championship finals as the last panel makes me go kinda insane. they stayed on the same playing field by literally being one of the two best club teams in the world.

Usopp gifts Sanji one of those plants that grow over the walls, telling him that it will keep him company and make the kitchen look cozier since he spends most of his time there. "Talk to it! I'll grow faster and healthier and perhaps you won't get a panic attack every two seconds that way!" and it sounds like a personal attack but it does work in the end. Sanji talks to the plant constantly while cooking, always, always thinking about Usopp when doing so. So now they have one of those plants covering the walls of the kitchen, Sanji has never felt more comfortable while cooking, and he keeps saying it grows so much thanks to their love.
